true loveThis is such a lovely book。 Quick lil bedtime read 。 Loved it。 Made me smile。 And I loved the mystery and enchanted atmosphere of it。
Tom,
A fun short storyThis short story is a cross between fantasy and mystery。 At the end of the story they still have not solved the mystery of how they got in the museum and what happened while they were。
Amanda s,
this is a weird story。 not sure what was going on here。 i got a copy free from amazon first reads so atleast i didn’t waste any money on it。
Sam,
Short story, very quick read, not terribly satisfying。

Lovers at the Museum“In truth, according to the staff, the museum gleamed that day as if bathed in bright sunlight, even though it was raining outside。 It had rained all week。” 💫💖

A good example of Allende's magical realism。 In this short story, two lovers spend a magical night in the Guggenheim Museum, in Bilbao, Spain。 They've only just met and don't even know each other's names。 It was written in Spanish and translated into English by Allende herself。 Funny, but would have been hilarious in Spanish。 Idiosyncratic dialogue doesn't translate well。 A search for a version in the original Spanish reveals that it exists, but not in eBook format。 Still 5 stars; engrossing and A good example of Allende's magical realism。 In this short story, two lovers spend a magical night in the Guggenheim Museum, in Bilbao, Spain。 They've only just met and don't even know each other's names。 It was written in Spanish and translated into English by Allende herself。 Funny, but would have been hilarious in Spanish。 Idiosyncratic dialogue doesn't translate well。 A search for a version in the original Spanish reveals that it exists, but not in eBook format。 Still 5 stars; engrossing and entertaining。 。。。more

This was a waste of time, and doesn’t make me want to read Allende’s other works。
Taylor Campos,
This was an Amazon first reads and a short story。 It was very odd and strange。 There was no depth although it’s a short story。 I shouldn’t have wasted 15 minutes of my life reading this。
Victoria,
Take it or leave it short story。 3 stars because I wish there was more context。 I liked the idea but needed more background。
nadya,
short but entertaining Loved this little story, very entertaining but I wish it had been longer。 What a fascinating museum! Would love to read more about the lovers and the magical museum。
Katie,
Only Allende can make trespassing and sleeping with a stranger romantic。
Janet G ,
A magical story。 I was transported away …I loved it。 I will read one of her books。 Thank you Amazon Prime
Austin Marie Serven,
I wish this was a full novel! It ended and I find myself with more questions than answers - there were so many interesting plot points here that could have been explored further。

"Rising Sea" (2019) a sculpture/installation by the artist El Anatsui at the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, Spain。I was lucky to find a free online version of the original Spanish language story at Los Amantes del Guggenheim which confirms that the reference to the "Rising Sea" did not exist in the original。 Presumably this was one of methods by which Allende sought to bring the story more up to date to the present day。Trivia and LinksRead further about the sculpture/installation "Rising Sea" (2019) at the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao。Read further about the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao at Wikipedia。Amazon Prime First Reads advance reading copies (ARCs) are available to Amazon Prime subscribers。 They offer advance reads of books in Kindle eBook format one month before the date of official release。 The current month's selection is available here (Link goes to Amazon US, adjust for your own country or region)。 。。。more

Fanciful short☺️I loved the tongue in cheek writing style and fantastical adventure of this short story。 It reminded me a bit of a Nikolai Gogol tale like The Nose with magical realism all conjured up by a couple's forbidden late night visit to a Bilbao art museum。 Just an easy, fun read。 Fanciful short☺️I loved the tongue in cheek writing style and fantastical adventure of this short story。 It reminded me a bit of a Nikolai Gogol tale like The Nose with magical realism all conjured up by a couple's forbidden late night visit to a Bilbao art museum。 Just an easy, fun read。 。。。more

Got this as a bonus freebie for Amazon Prime First Read for March。 Very short story (25 pages)。 Two lovers are found intertwined in the Guggenheim Museum— her in a tattered wedding dress, him stark naked。 They don’t know each other’s names, but it was love at first sight。 There’s no explanation to how they got inside the museum undetected other than “magic。” I don’t think the point of the story was to understand the mystery of how they got inside, but to believe in the “magic” of being completel Got this as a bonus freebie for Amazon Prime First Read for March。 Very short story (25 pages)。 Two lovers are found intertwined in the Guggenheim Museum— her in a tattered wedding dress, him stark naked。 They don’t know each other’s names, but it was love at first sight。 There’s no explanation to how they got inside the museum undetected other than “magic。” I don’t think the point of the story was to understand the mystery of how they got inside, but to believe in the “magic” of being completely in love that it seems beyond rational thought and reason。 It’s almost supernatural。 I believe the magical elements described could be a metaphor for the main female character finding “real” love after leaving her fiancé (a successful athlete) at the alter。 She ran from the alter and is found by this other man that “loves” her in a way that takes her to other worlds。 Very nice magical realism in this story。 Makes me interested in other works from Isabel Allende。Overall, I think the writing was fantastic。 There was a lot told in 25 page while not really telling much 😂 It’s a nice short read (around 20 min, give or take) if you need a boost towards a goal or if you want to slip into a short love story that defies logic。 。。。more

A perfect slice of magical realism。 I giggled the entire 25 pages。 @MorganSnoap please read this
Ashleigh,
I got this book as part of my March Amazon First Reads。 Lovers at the Museum is a short story, 25 pages, that felt vaguely like someone explaining a dream。 Nothing really made sense and the police officer, Aitor Larramendi, would abruptly transition from one location talking to one character to another and back again。 Overall it was a miss for me which seems to be the theme with these first read books。
Gabriela,
2。5 - Got this as part of March’s Prime First Reads。Without a doubt, this story created a wonderful sense of whimsical atmosphere, all credit to the writing。 In terms of plot and characters, the story felt like it went everywhere and nowhere at the same time。 Maybe I'm simply not smart enough for this, but I felt like I was reading the accounts of someone trying to recount their dreams。 You might find the unanswered mystery compelling, but I found it unsatisfying。 I couldn't even begin to form a 2。5 - Got this as part of March’s Prime First Reads。Without a doubt, this story created a wonderful sense of whimsical atmosphere, all credit to the writing。 In terms of plot and characters, the story felt like it went everywhere and nowhere at the same time。 Maybe I'm simply not smart enough for this, but I felt like I was reading the accounts of someone trying to recount their dreams。 You might find the unanswered mystery compelling, but I found it unsatisfying。 I couldn't even begin to form a theory。 Maybe it should've been longer。 But hey, it was free and I enjoyed reading parts of it, even if I didn't end up liking it。“I’m certain that there was something vibrating in the air, like a murmur, like the river of words we say without thinking when we make love。 You know what I mean?” 。。。more

Mikey Stack,
I love Isabel Allende。 She's probably my favorite author, or at least in the top three。 But this short story didn't land quite as well as her full-length novels。 I think, this would've worked better if it were a bit longer and we got the actual "crime" instead of it being told through interrogations scenes。 Lost a lot of Allende's "magical" side of her usual brilliant use of magical realism。Free with Amazon first reads's bonus short story I love Isabel Allende。 She's probably my favorite author, or at least in the top three。 But this short story didn't land quite as well as her full-length novels。 I think, this would've worked better if it were a bit longer and we got the actual "crime" instead of it being told through interrogations scenes。 Lost a lot of Allende's "magical" side of her usual brilliant use of magical realism。Free with Amazon first reads's bonus short story 。。。more
